Kennedys Law Apprenticeship Salary
The idea of university is not attractive to everyone and learning law is an equal opportunity for a career in law. In my opinion, training can offer much more than studying, because it is the real-life experience that gives trainees an advantage. Sometimes it can be very difficult to work at a global law firm four days a week and earn a law degree one day a week, but there is support available to ensure this is achievable. Kennedys – which will continue to offer conventional training contracts for graduates and paralegal apprenticeships for school leavers – plans to welcome its first 13 GSA newcomers next autumn: six in London, three in Birmingham, two in Cambridge and one in Manchester and Taunton. Our apprenticeships are offered in cooperation with our BPP training provider. More information about BPP can be found here. Her paralegal education provides an introduction to the fundamentals of legal practice and offers a combination of learning and working in one of their legal teams to develop your knowledge and skills needed to work as a process assistant at Kennedys. In addition to being a dedicated supervisor at Kennedys, you will have a personal tutor and student manager at BPP to ensure you get the support you need at work and in your studies. While technical insight is welcome, it`s even more important that you meet good people at Kennedys. “The other members of the team, both junior and senior, are always happy to help,” says one newcomer.
“It`s a great group of interns and we don`t suffer too much from competition or sneaky culture.” When it comes to integrating into the ranks of interns, trying to get a vacation program under your belt might be an idea, as Kennedys specifically says they like to hire people who are already known through this route. Once inside, the company offers much more than an interesting job with perks such as “good competitive salary, flexible work, regular gifts/social events/customer events all year round” and “free breakfast [and] private dental and health insurance.” Visit www.kennedyslaw.com/careers-at-kennedy to learn more about attorney training opportunities at Kennedys. The qualification period is actually no different from the traditional method, as you must also obtain a law degree and pass both lawyers` qualifying exams for legal education. However, on-the-job practical training takes place at the same time as studies. Each intern also builds a portfolio of tasks to demonstrate their progress and skills in the workplace. Depending on the location, you will receive a starting salary of between £18,550 and £20,650. In addition, you will receive 25 days of vacation (plus public holidays) and a state-approved apprenticeship. All training costs are fully funded by Kennedys, so there are no course fees and you earn as you learn. Our two-year training as a paralegal allows students to receive a Level 4 Graduate Certificate in Legal Services. This corresponds to the first year of a Bachelor of Laws. Paralegal education provides an introduction to the fundamentals of legal practice and offers a combination of learning and working in one of our legal teams to gain the knowledge and skills needed to work as a process assistant at Kennedys.
The 30-month training program takes the form of graduate lawyer training, which allows articling students to work and earn a living at Kennedys immediately after college, while gaining legal work experience in one of their core areas before taking the SQE1 and SQE2 exams to qualify as a lawyer. The program includes working at Kennedys four days a week and one day off a week to study at BBP. In addition to a dedicated Kennedys supervisor, interns have a tutor and skills coach at BPP to ensure they receive all support at work and study. Please keep an eye out for training opportunities on our Early Career page. Another advantage of the training path is that trainees earn a salary. Academic learning is also funded by my employer through the government education tax, so I will qualify as a debt-free lawyer. It usually costs over £65,000 via the traditional route. Please visit kennedyslaw.com/who-we-are/diversity/ for more information. Thanks to an apprenticeship as a lawyer, the qualification of lawyer is also achieved.
However, university education and hands-on work-based learning are combined over a total of six years. Back in Blighty, the Kennedys spread: apprentices can apply for an apprenticeship contract in Manchester, Taunton, the London headquarters and the new Leeds office, or in London, Manchester, Taunton, Cambridge, Birmingham or Sheffield for a 30-month SQE training programme in a specific practical area. The core of the firm`s business is the defense of insurance claims as well as other important liability issues such as professional liability, bodily injury and clinical negligence. Major cases in recent years include the sale of Maxwell House, hip replacement manufacturer DePuy`s successful defense against a product infringement lawsuit brought by 300 patients, and the cancellation of a high-profile personal injury payment by the London Paralympic Games to one of its volunteers. While the company points to uncontroversial work and clients in other sectors, it will be difficult to get an apprenticeship contract with a company that is trying to position itself as a “go-to company for the insurance industry” without at least taking an interest in the subject. The idea of university is not attractive to everyone and learning law is an equal opportunity for a career in law. It`s normal to be afraid to start a job at a law firm at the age of 18, but colleagues know you may need additional guidance and support in this role to get started. However, I was never called “the apprentice” and the trainees are very quickly integrated into the team and gain practical experience from day one.
It`s very rewarding to see how I have developed since the beginning of my training. Jenny Chapman currently works as an apprentice lawyer for the global law firm Kennedys. By talking to Jenny, we were able to get a fascinating insight into her life as a trainee lawyer. She also explained the benefits of the training and gave advice on entering the legal profession at the age of 18. First year salary: £41,000 London; £29,000 regional; £22,000 Scotland What`s the worst thing about the company? “The (London) office – but we are moving”, “limited international missions”, “there are only three seats in the Taunton office”, “when it comes to seat rotation, HR does not always match our preferences”, “sometimes teams can be extremely busy and little work is delegated”, “salary”, “not as many benefits or social activities as other companies”, “Long online training when you join the firm” After completing the two-year paralegal training, articling students who wish to continue their studies have the opportunity to participate in Level 7 legal training. This takes four years and involves obtaining a degree (Hons) in legal practice and leads to the qualification of barrister six years after leaving school. I had no legal or insurance experience when I applied for my studies, but it didn`t matter as the company provides support and training to ensure that people from different backgrounds have the opportunity to perform well. In addition to a dedicated Kennedys supervisor, you`ll have a tutor and skills coach at BPP to make sure you get all the support you need at work and in your studies. We offer a competitive salary (at least the live salary in the UK both inside and outside London). Kennedys offers legal apprenticeships for young people who are leaving school and have graduated from high school or equivalent and want to start an exciting career and earn money while learning. We believe that our apprentices are a very important part of our talent pool here at Kennedys.
Your Business Services training provides an introduction to the fundamentals of how a Business Services department works at Kennedys. After completing the initial training, apprentices who wish to continue their studies have the opportunity to move on to higher education or become a permanent member of the team. Business services training leads to certification in one of their business services departments such as business development, finance, facilities and IT.
