New Mexico Legal Aid is dedicated to removing barriers to justice for low-income New Mexicans by providing free, high-quality civil legal advice and education for over 60 years. As the state`s largest nonprofit provider of civil law services, NMLA serves all 33 counties in New Mexico. The New Mexico State Bar Association`s Legal Resources for the Elderly program provides negotiated or free legal aid to New Mexicans aged 55 and older. We provide free legal advice and representation to seniors on health care, public services, living wills, consumer rights and other matters. This new program provides advocacy and legal aid to victims of crime across New Brunswick. OLCC assists seniors with their estate planning documents, including wills, death transfers, affidavits and simple estates. DNA People`s Legal Services provides free legal aid, advice and legal representation to low-income individuals living on the reserve they serve. Working closely with the New Mexico State Bar, the Access to Justice Commission, and local judicial district volunteer committees, New Mexico Legal Aid of New Mexico`s Volunteer Lawyers Program (VAP) engages in direct case placement with pro bono attorneys, sponsors CLE events, trainings, and provides support and coordination to local legal clinics for low-income New Mexico residents. Legal aid in New Mexico is funded in part by the Legal Services Corporation. As a condition of the funding she receives from LSC, she is prohibited from engaging in certain activities throughout her legal work, including work supported by other sources of funding. New Mexico Legal Aid may not spend funds on activities prohibited by the Legal Services Society Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2996 et seq., or by Public Law 104-134. Public Law 104-134 § 504(d) requires that all funders of programs funded by the Legal Services Corporation be informed of these restrictions.
